Here's how GOALszn captains make it happen:
Ev makes it a habit and sweetens the pot as needed. The gym can be super boring, especially compared to the group sports she grew up playing. To address this boredom, she's made going to the gym part of a consistent habit. Every day, she does something physical, and the gym is usually part of this. And when that doesn't work, she'll make it fun by treating herself to a new coffee on her way to the gym or stopping by CVS to browse beauty products.
Ron remembers his "why." Shame can be a powerful motivator, and Ron never wants to feel like he can't be good at a given sport or activity because he's not fit enough. That means that when he was into surfing, he was constantly working on mobility and now that he's focusing on tennis, he's in the gym doing what he needs to do to be good at it.
Nikki analyzes the underlying resistance. As a very competitive person, she's motivated to work out because she doesn't want to lose the progress she's made and, within each GOALszn, because she wants to win. When things get really rough, she tunes into the reason she's struggling. If she's bored with her routine and needs something new, she'll try a new class. If she needs a little bit of a break, she'll still go to the gym but do a lighter routine.
The key here is to "know thyself," a concept we've mentioned before. What will work for you?
