Mindful Vice-ing
"Know Thyself" is Rule #1 in achieving fitness goals. Instead of beating yourself up over vices, like enjoying a drink, create a strategy to minimize impact. Alcohol can suppress your immune system, so if you indulge, counter it: exercise, sleep well, eat mindfully, and schedule regular checkups. Plus, consider some "Mindful Drinking" – ask yourself, do you really need that extra nightcap?
‘Mindful Vice-ing” could work for other habits too. If you love sweets, maybe work them into your diet while eating super nutritious, whole meals otherwise.
In essence, it's all about "balance," a core principle of GOALszn.
Team Captain Ev: “Mindful Drinking” for me can be replaced with 💦 drinking massive amounts of water 💦. Usually a camel, I went all-in on water at a wedding, downing about 8 glasses pre, during, and post-dinner. I drank water at cocktail hour (a win for me!) knowing drinks would be flowing at dinner. It paid off – I woke up the next day feeling surprisingly refreshed and started with a workout!
Maybe we need another water llama challenge…
Maximizing Everything Everywhere All at Once
Would you wear a Katalyst training suit to complete a 2-Hour Workout in 20 Minutes? Sure-a lunch break workout would be no problem. But personally, this would suck all the joy I get from moving my body (and the space I enjoy away from other responsibilities).
On the flip side, What If Instead of Trying to Manage Your Time, You Set It Free invites us to rethink our relationship with time. Author Jenny Odell suggests that focusing on connections, encounters, and personal growth enriches our experience of time, rather than obsessing over efficiency.
Time management is a recurring theme, and for good reason – it has a significant impact on mental health. We once took on the challenge of tracking our time, inspired by Hidden Brain's podcast, Taking control of your time. Surprisingly, our GOALszn team gained impactful learnings!
Speaking of obsessive behavior, "biohacking enthusiasts” – who’s behavior reminds me of Munchausen's syndrome – are apparently investing hundreds of thousands of 💰 on gadgets and devices for the home. If I’m being honest - I’m kinda jelly. But given that it’s “difficult for medical doctors to assess biohacking’s scientific merits and safety due to biohacking’s extremely wide spectrum of tools and interventions” I’m taking most of the practices with a grain of salt–for now.
Take it BACK Now Y’all: This Week’s Challenge
Do back-specific mobility and stretching for at least 10 minutes before every workout this week.
This is inspired by teammate Sujeet’s recently tweaked back and plea for advice, combined with GOALszn veteran Myla’s challenge to stretch for 10 minutes with every workout this week.
Quick Rec: The Chirp Wheel was recommended by GOALszn doctor friend, Dan.
Snap a pic 📸 of a good back stretch and tag us on @opengoalszn.
