Spooky SZN is Upon Us

GOALszn veteran Dong hiking with a friend. Nothing like the great outdoors.

Hope y’all enjoy this week’s reads. I’ve dealt with concussions more often than not growing up playing contact sports so that article below really resonated with me.

For our active SZN members in current running groups, post a selfie with your favorite pumpkin treat. Pumpkin spice lattes do not count. Don’t forget to #bonus to receive credit.

Concussed Caloric Thoughts

I’m happy that Andrea Kane of CNN wrote this article on How to avoid, identify and treat concussions. Always playing impact sports growing up, I somewhat knew the protocol. I can see people who have went the non impact sports route not being as educated on how to assess if you or someone has a concussion. Last week, I hit my head on the a drawer earlier last week and you bet I cursed someone words that should not be repeated. It sounds so silly but I did go through the steps to make sure I did not have a concussion. This is a great read/refresher on the topic so we can be prepared for ourselves, our children, and others.

Another dialogue that I have had with myself recently is calorie counting. I can tell you that I miss the days 16 year old could eat a Wendy’s #6 Spicy Chicken Sandwich Combo Meal 4 days out of the week and not worry about my physique. To say the least, mid twenties me was not happy when I tried to keep up this diet.

I just want to emphasize that I’m not trying to say that we should all be out here calorie counting to look like the Greek statues found in the MET. Its amazing that people are starting to celebrate all different body types. This New York Times article “How Do My Calorie Needs Change as I Age?” is just a reminder that our bodies are changing and maturing where you should make some slight adjustments if you so desire.

I wonder how many Kansas City Chief’s jersey’s we’ll be seeing this weekend.

With Halloween on the horizon, I would have said the most popular pop culture costumes would have been Barbie and Ken. However, the New York Times thinks it will be vastly overtaken by Taylor Swift and Chief’s tight end Travis Kelce. I have to somewhat agree with this given the number of Swifties tuning into NFL games.

With that being said, we want to see your costumes! Post a photo of yourself in costume performing 20 squats, pushups, or crunches. Don’t forget your #bonus if you do it!
