You say burrito, I say no go 🌯⛔
Do you even gym selfie correctly, bro?
#burritogate2024
We love the commitment to honesty (and burritos)—but these aren’t going to cut it. (Thx to George and Jonathan for being good sports about this!) ❤️
Greetings from the halfway mark of our current GOALszn groups!
Quick recap: GOALszn isn't just a newsletter—it's a workout accountability game done with a team of friends. The game requires that people upload selfies as proof of completed workouts. (Learn more by emailing us! )
Now, let's talk selfies. We require them for two reasons:
People feel more connected to photos of people versus objects.
When we didn't have selfie requirements, we got a lot of pics of people's feet/shoes, weights, and even the walls at the gym. Not fun!
Case in point: #burritogate. We had folks trying to substitute gym selfies for burrito-eating pics. While hilarious, it made us realize the importance of structure in our community. After all, GOALszn is a game, and games need rules. Without them, we'd all be winners (you're all winners in our hearts, though!).
Coming off the heels of this tortilla-wrapped scandal of a week, below, we're laying down the captain-approved dos and don'ts of gym selfies!
Bless up,
Ev, Nikki, and Ron

HOW TO GYM SELFIE LIKE A SZN-ED PRO
Environmental matters
Do snap a pic in your workout environment! In front of the gym is okay, but in a car is not. (Although we love that y'all all wear your seatbelts!)
Don’t snap a pic eating your post-workout burrito, at home after your workout, or post-shower with your makeup done.
Include buddies—with consent
Do include your workout buds. It's always fun to document a sweat session at the gym or a group class together!
Don't take pics in the locker room with other people around, or in any area deemed off-limits by your gym.
Be authentic, be be authentic!
Do own it! Capture the post-workout glow to convey the sense of accomplishment and fulfillment after a challenging session. And feel free to get vulnerable if you’re feeling less-than-desirable; people can definitely relate to that feeling!
Don’t fake it. If you don’t want to smile or pose—don’t! Show your true colors. If you do want to learn how to pose, check out David Suh, a photographer who teaches people how to feel their best in photos.
Think outside the box (jump)
Do mix it up with GIFs, videos, and artistic liberties. Add stickers or even a quote (hint: this is easy to do in Instagram and then download the photo to share!).
Don't get so creative that you go outside of the rules. Again, structure is important!
WHAT WE'RE LIKING LATELY
đź’ˇA solid reminder from Schwarzenegger: Just do something that you KNOW is good for you, and forget about the things that MIGHT be good for you.
✨Speaking of Arnold, want to Pump Up Your Skincare? A recent Japanese study showed strength training helps skin keep its youthful glow, perhaps more than even cardio!
🩲19 Pairs Of Workout Underwear For Your Sweatiest Gym Days (Sorry guys, for women only). The best undies for those super-sweaty workouts!
🏅British ultrarunner Jasmin Paris became the first woman to complete the Barkley Marathons. If you don't know about the Barkley Marathons already, check out the award-winning documentary on Peacock (pair it with our popcorn rec below for an extra good time).
🤼‍♂️Wrestlemania 40 is taking place this weekend in Philadelphia. Ever wondered what they do to stay in such strong shape? Now you know.
THIS REC IS POPPIN' 🍿
Ev eats popcorn almost every day and is always down to try new brands. A friend (hi Jamila!) introduced her to SALTED EGG by Tochi Snacks, and Ev was an instant fan. And after meeting the founder, Ian, it's apparent that the Tochi brand speaks to GOALszn's value of balance.
These treats may not be "health food" but they are enjoyable, satiating, and—in the case of the salmon skin chips—full of protein! Congrats to Nate for winning a few packages with his Gen Z caption!
CHALLENGE TIME
Speaking of protein…Nikki's challenge is to consume at least 0.8*(your body weight) grams of protein, at least three days over the coming two-week period.
If you're in an active group, share a pic of one of your high-protein dishes/snacks and tell us how you felt doing this challenge. (Don’t forget the separate #challenge comment!) If you’re not in in a group right now, tag us on social; we want to hear from you!

CHALLENGE RECAP: Gigi’s Pistol Squats
Gigi’s pistol squat challenge reminded us to: a) Embrace new exercises! b) Adapt movements to match our fitness level. Check out Colleen's TRX band modification!
GOALszn: WHAT IS IT?
