Lyft your spirits

Resilience, calling out Huberman (as always), and more

Ev attempting Steph’s #fitfam bonus (see below)

We've all been at the mercy of super chatty drivers, but Ev's recent Lyft ride left her with a lot to ponder—in a good way.

Her Lyft driver, a 60-year old ultramarathoner who cited her "sweet spot" as 100 miles, didn't even start running until after she divorced her husband in her 50s. 🤯 People always tell you it's never too late to try something new or follow your dreams, but it just hits diff when someone lays it out like that.

Of course, Ev had questions. "What would you tell someone in my workout accountability group if they felt like giving up mid-workout, or not going at all?" she asked.

"Don't ever let the pain keep you from moving forward," the woman replied.

Honestly, mic drop moment 🎙️💥 Because while this advice may have been about workouts, it applies to all of life. This simple response has been living in Ev's head rent-free since that ride, and we know that many of you already live it.

In the GOALszn community, we see a lot of people come back from tearing their ACL and work toward their previous level of activity. We see you, and you inspire us! Let's keep going together.

Bless up,

Ev, Nikki, and Ron

WHAT WE'RE LIKING LATELY

Most supplements are garbage ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ev loves that this article starts out immediately calling out cult fave Andrew Huberman; it then goes on to challenge the prevailing belief in supplements for enhancing performance. The idea that we need vitamins is kind of a scam, with some exceptions. If you want to research for yourself, start with this spreadsheet (shared by a friend of the community).

A must-read for parents with kids in sports activities

Resilience isn't just for adults; it starts in childhood. Did you know that losing at sports can be quite emotional for children? Despite the highs, Ron remembers the lows of his childhood activities the most. From getting cut from the team to experiencing racism, he's grateful that he had his dad to nurture him through tough times. Here's what you can do to help your own children.

Is sexy time on your travel agenda?

Nikki's intrigued by the concept of sexual wellness and the thesis that "sexual wellness is one of the final frontiers of health left for mainstream exploration." While she isn't signing up for any of the retreats just yet, she did like learning that they all view sexual health as interconnected with every other area of wellness—so different from the way we are taught to think of sex!

Hyrox gamifies gym time for everyone

Ron used to think people who did Hyrox were all fucking crazy, but now he's starting to get the appeal. A fitness competition that started in Germany in 2017 and has now made its way across the globe, Hyrox aims to gamify working out for all gym goers. It makes sense that adding this component—which is also the driving force behind GOALszn—can really push people to achieve more in their workouts.

Speaking of Hyrox introducing the newest member of GOALszn: Chris! Chris is joining the NYC team and competing in Hyrox in June. We’re cheering you on!

CHALLENGE TIME

Time to put that ultramarathoner's advice to good use! Check out Gigi's pistol squat challenge, and don't let the pain stop ya on your way down (or up)! If you're in an active szn, don't forget to share a video, time lapse vid, or pic with your group and use the hashtag #challenge to get a point!
