Check in With Your Body & SLOW DOWN

Ask me a year ago, I would say that was never a fan of the New York Times health & wellness articles. I thought they were basic. Flash forward, here I am sharing with you this basic fucking read titled Sore After Working Out? Here’s How to Manage while I’m sipping on my pumpkin spiced latte. You’ve changed, Ron. You have changed.

In all seriousness, this article mentions some vital things to consider that you might already know, but I love that I came across this as a reminder. The one that stood out to me was dynamic warmups! People, I swear by this. We were all in physical education where we agonized at the thought of doing jumping jacks and high knees before playing dodgeball. Guess what? Father time. Just do a quick regimen or I’ll make you.

Backtracking on calling this a basic read, I’ve come to realize that stumbling upon weekly articles like these are amazing. I think its common for almost all of us to get caught up in the swing of things and that’s perfectly alright. “I’m feeling so tired lately. Why do am I low on energy” Some current inner monologue I definitely have with myself. Amanda Loudin, thank you for your read that made me reflect on how I can possibly fix this.

I think I almost cried when reading this this woman’s account of her journey in finding “slow” running. Vogue has an article Why Is Running All About Speed? An Ode To Slow Running by Madeline Howard. She talks about how Haruki Murakami writes some things in his memoir that has inspired her to slow down.

I feel very much connected with her in many ways when it comes to past running experiences. I’ve always been one with the mindset running is for performance optimization and and to lose weight. Howard’s account is really making me think there could be more to it. Let me know what you think about this one y’all.

Week 11 Challenge: Be Dynamic

las Sansone for The New York Times

Told you I would make you. Referencing an older New York Times post The Best Warm-Up Is a Dynamic Warm-Up, this week’s challenge is to perform this specific dynamic warm up before one (1) of your workouts. Please tell your group or friends how the workout that followed felt and if you would do it again.

Feel free to add other exercises you already do or would find beneficial! There is no time duration is has to be. Please use your best judgement.
